I've read alot of the fantasy-faerie genre, and this book was a solid addition. But as this genre goes, Need could have introduced its supernatural aspects a little more smoothly. I found myself rereading pages, wondering how a straight-edge pacificist came up with pixies. But nonetheless, it was an interesting story with several interesting characters. I also wish the climax had been a bit more grande, but hey, pixies don't care.
I recommend for teen girls 12+. 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

This book was a little bit rough in the beginning, but it got better. I mean, who's parents are willing to hand their adopted daughter over to a vampire? But though the characters were a bit weak at times, it was an overall good novel. The story was interesting, and was not too predictable. I can't stand the title though, it completely belies the plot.
I recommend it to teen girls 13+. 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Sweep #1: Book of Shadows
by Cate Tiernan

Morgan is a normal high school girl, and she has grown used to living in the shadow of her gorgeous, talented best friend Bree. But then Cal Blaire comes to Widow's Vale High. Cal finds instant popularity, and Morgan begins to fall for him, as does her best friend Bree.
Then Cal invites a bunch of kids to a party, which turns out to be a celebration of the Wiccan holiday Sabbat. Morgan is completely taken in by this new religion, and finds that strange things are happening to her, magykal things.
This was a great book. Very short, but with good characters and a more realistic view of adolescence than you often find. It also offers a realistic and non-discriminatory view of Wicca. I finished it wanting to know what happens next.
Four out of five stars. Recommended for teenage girls 12+.

This was a very good book. I'm a big fan of the author, who also wrote Firebringer and The Sight(highly recommend those!). The only downside of this book was its slight predictability, and it was a little juvenile for my taste. But it was a very good story with good, well developed characters. It kept me interested and I had to know what happened.
Recommended for guys and girls 12+. 4 out of 5 stars.

Heir to Sevenwaters
Juliet Marillier

I wasn't expecting another book about Sevenwaters from my favorite author, but I was definitely thrilled when I heard about it. Coming after Marillier's Sevenwater's Trilogy, Heir to Sevenwaters is a worthy addition. It follows the story of Clodagh, a daughter of the House of Sevenwaters, whose mother is expected to give birth soon. But she is far past the safe age for childbearing, and the household is on edge. And then her newborn son disappears from his chamber, leaving something else in his stead. It is up to Clodagh to right the wrong done to her family.
Romance, adventure, magic, even if you have not read the preceding books, you can enjoy this book.
5/5 stars, recommended for teens 13+

Body of Work: Meditations on Mortality from the Human Anatomy Lab
Christine Montross

In her book, Body of Work, Montross tells of a first-year med student's struggle with human dissection. She describes the process, the philosophy and the history of the practice. If you are interested in the medical field, I highly recommend this book. Montross offers a glimpse into the process of becoming a doctor as well as the philosophical questions it entails. Definitely not for the squeamish!
I found this book very interesting and it really made me think. Recommended for teens 14+, 4 out of 5 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. The story was interesting and wasn't too predictable. Recommended for teen girls, 4 out of 5 stars.

Ink Exchange
by Melissa Marr

Ink Exchange is somewhat of a sequel to Marr's Wicked Lovely, except that it's from Leslie's perspective. Leslie knows nothing of the world of Faerie, she knows only her abusive homelife and terror and pain. She desperately wants to have something of her own, and decides to get a tattoo.
But Leslie doesn't know the true nature of the world she lives in, nor does she understand the true nature of the tattoo she decides upon. And little does she know, a single tattoo will give her exactly what she wants, and change her life forever.

Ink Exchange was definitely a good read, though it didn't seem to come to a final resolution. The story faded out when it seemed it was leading to a larger conflict. Nonetheless, a good read for teen girls.

Raising the Griffin
by Melissa Wyatt

I picked this book up because of the title. It had the word griffin in it, and there was no summary on the back of the book. When I found out it was about a prince, I expected it to be some stereotypical fairytale, but it wasn't. Not at all.
Alex comes from a long line of royalty, but they haven't assumed the Rovenian throne in years, not since it was taken over by communism. But now he is called up to become a Prince, and his father to become King. Alex struggles to maintain his identity and freedom under the grip of his new duties. His is faced with many challenges, some that seem insumountable. But with steadfast courage and the help of those close to him, he realizes what it truly means to be Prince Alexei Varenoff.
This book was awesome, and I could hardly put it down at the end. The story is very grounded and real with a well-developed set of characters.
Recommended for all teens, 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

This book seemed very promising when I started out, but the author seemed to loose track of her character and the plot weakened near the end. The story felt a bit rushed and unbelievable. But overall it was a good read. It leads you to think a bit about the world. Recommended for teens 13+. 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Man has abandoned Earth, which is now a lifeless planet coated in trash. They left behind robots to clean up their mess, Wall-e being one of them. But unlike his predecessors, Wall-e has developed a personality. But his world is turned upside-down when another robot arrives, Eve.
I loved this movie. It may seem like a little kids' movie, but I still enjoyed it. It has a very good message and is also very entertaining.

Tan Lines by Katherine Applegate

I pick up the recent sequel to the book, Beach Blondies, and quickly buy it and sit down for another fun adventure for romance, anger, compassion, love, and drama. In this book, Tan Lines, is nothing like the title, but is about a girl named Summer, ironically in the season, summer.

The main character is a high school graduate that is with her boyfriend, Seth, in a tangle of a mess, and it's even worse when her ex-boyfriend's coming to where she's going to be staying for the summer; in Florida!

Thrown in between her loves, Summer struggles to keep her boyfriend while he's in California and keep her ex at bay in Florida, while also trying to help her brother clear a murder of which he was falsely blamed, and helping her anorexic friend.

This book is totally worth it, and I would recommend it to the people that like drama, because this book definitely made me want to throw it across the room (I hate drama) but for people, like me, who hate drama too, this would be a great book for you also to read because I learned a lot of lessons through this book.

The Last Invisible Boy by Evan Kuhlman

Evan Kuhlman will be releasing his second book in the fall of this year. It will be called The Last Invisible Boy. When I first picked up the advance reader’s copy I assumed that the narrator has some degree of identity crisis. But I was wrong.

Twelve-year-old Finn Garrett was just like any other kid, he had friends, family, and a father. All of a sudden, he lost his father and when he woke up the next day his entire body began turning pale white, right down to the roots of his hair!

Fearing that his invisibility will cause him to vanish anytime he begins working on these memoirs. The reader listens to the thoughts of Finn as he constructs ‘if then’ scenarios preventing his father’s passing. Searching through his mind, he tries to bring himself to understand what gone is and remembering the friendship and love of his father.

I give this book a five out of five and suggest it for anyone seeking healing through the loss of a loved one.

Movie Review

It's been a year since Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy have been to Narnia. But when they return, things are not as they seem. Centuries have passed in their absence, and Narnia is in a turmoil. The heir to the throne, Prince Caspian, is now fleeing for his life. Caspian and the queens and kings of Narnia of old will have to fight away a new evil, or lose Narnia as they know it.
I loved this movie!! It was engaging, interesting and the characters were awesome. I highly recommend it to everyone!!

The Wild Trees
by Richard Preston

If you like trees, you'll love The Wild Trees, I did. Non-fiction isn't everyone's cup of tea, but Preston does it right. His books read more like fiction, with scientific information here and there.
This book follows the story of Steve Sillett and Marie Antoine, two daring tree climbers. But these aren't just any trees, these are the biggest living things in the world. Some redwood trees exceed 350ft in height. This book is fast-pace and interesting, perfect if you're into science or plants. Recommended to everyone 13+, 4/5 stars.

If trees aren't your thing, but you still want to try some nonfiction, I highly recommend Preston's book The Hot Zone, reviewed below.

Stephenie Meyer took the nation with her bestselling Twilight Saga. She's done it again with her new novel.
The Earth has been taken over by aliens, but they aren't your typical sci-fi killers. Actually, they take over the humans' bodies and make the world a better place. But Melanie, Wanderer's host body, refuses to fade away. Trapped by Melanie's vivid emotions and memories, Wanderer finds herself falling in love, with the man of Melanie's memories.
Though a little slow at first, this book is very addictive and fast-pace. I recommend it to everyone 12+. 5/5 stars!

The Hot Zone
by Richard Preston

Despite that it's nonfiction, The Hot Zone is something of a horror story. It is very science-based and is about an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the DC area. I absolutely loved this book, and found it fascinating. It is very interesting and detailed. Only for the strong-stomached.

Speak

Melinda Sordino used to be happy. She had great friends, and school was good. But after she called the cops at a party, she's the most hated girl in school. What they don't know is the real reason she called the cops, and it's something Melinda's never told anyone.
This is a wonderful, moving book. The writing style is different, but very interesting. Melinda is a wonderful narrator, the characters are very vivid. I highly recommend it to teenage girls. 5 out of 5 stars!

A Countess Below Stairs, by Eva Ibbotson

This book is your typical romance, with a lot of history thrown in. The book starts off a little slow, leading the reader to wonder when something is actually going to happen. Nonetheless, it is a sweet romance, with vivid imagery. My only complaint is the writing style. Ibbotson seemed to be trying so hard to sound sophisticated, that I got lost in the verbose writing style.
Anna is young countess whose family fled Russia after the start of WWI. With no money, she has no choice but to work at the Westerholme Estate. It is there that she meets the young Earl of Westerholme, Rupert, who is engaged to woman who appears kind on the surface, put is in reality something far more evil.
Despite its weaknesses, A Countess Below Stairs is a nice read for teen girls. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Maximum Ride: The Final Warning
by James Patterson

I aboslutely love this series, but I was slightly disappointed by this fourth installment. It was much shorter than its predecessors and essentially, nothing happened. Nonetheless, it still had our favorite characters, and was rich in Max's wit and sarcasm.
After years on the run, Max and her flock have finally risen to meet their final purpose, saving the world. But even in Antartica, one of the farthest reaches of the world, are they really safe?

This series, starting with Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment is great for both guys and girls of all ages. I give the 4th book in the series 3 1/2 out 5 stars. The series overall, 4 out of 5 stars. I definitely recommend these books!

This book will take you less than an hour to read. I constantly wonder about Alice Hoffman's books, wondering what these short novels are really saying.
Oak Grove is "high and dry." Since a huge flood, it's residents have been wary of water. All of them except Trevor and Eli McGill, and their friend Martha Glimmer. "Trout" and "Eel," as they're called, aren't like everyone else. They have startling green eyes, and a thin webbing between their fingers and toes. Will they live out their lives in Oak Grove, or pursue their dream and find the ocean?

The Stolen Child

by Keith Donahue

Based on the age-old myth of the changeling, this novel is vivid and magical. It tells the tale of Henry Day, stolen away from his family at the age of seven. He runs away from home, and finds himself kidnapped by a strange troop of ageless children. The book alternates between Henry and the changeling who took his place. Donahue fully explores the lives of the changelings, as well as the duty and guilt of the changeling who has stolen another's life. An awesome book.

A Certain Slant of Light

The Foretelling, by Alice Hoffman

This book is an acquired taste, it is short, sweet, and infintely deep. It has beautiful writing, and I recommend it to teen girls 10 and up.

Hush, by Donna Jo Napoli

I've always loved novels involving Ireland, Irish folklore etc, so I had high expectations for Hush. At first I was disappointed, the main character was spoiled and not easily liked. But as the book progressed, Princess Melkorka deepened as a character.
After a tradegy in her family, Melkorka and her younger sister are forced to leave under the disguise of two poor boys. But soon after they leave, misfortune befalls them and they are taken by strange men. This book is great for teen girls, I give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

The Truth About Forever

by Sarah Dessen

This book was so good, I read it in 7 hours.

After witnessing her own father's death, 16 year-old Macy's life has been all about school, grades, and basically, being perfect. She lives out her simple life, never taking risks, never deivating from her perfect schedule.

But when Macy gets a job with Wish Catering, her life changes. She meets Kristy, Monica, Delia, and most importantly, Wes. Wes is an artist of sorts, and he and his friends show Macy how to live, really live.

The characters in this book are well-developed, gripping, and the story makes you laugh and cry. I recommend it to teenage girls 14+.

But in a world where not everything is what it seems, Will has to deal with what it really means to follow the Goodness.

The Light-Bearer's Daughter

by O.R. Melling

I am big fan of the first book of this trilogy, Hunter's Moon. The Light-Bearer's Daughter, however, seems to be aimed at a younger crowd. Nonetheless, it is a good read. Dana, a twelve year-old who has never known her mother, is sent on a quest through the land of Faerie. Irish folklore is incorporated well into this modern book, and I recommend it for all ages, boys and girls. 4 out of 5 stars.

This trilogy, consisting of Hunter's Moon, The Summer King, and The Light-Bearer's Daughter, can be read in any order.

Attention, fans of the Inheritance Series by Christopher Paolini.

Christopher Paolini recently released the title and cover of Book Three of the Inheritance Series. Book Three is to be title Brisingr, and will be released at 12:01am on September 20th, 2008. It is likely that many book sellers will throw midnight parties in honor of its release.

Paolini also announced that the series will consist of 4 books, as opposed to the formerly planned 3. He stated that in order to finish Brisingr well, he killed off a main character.

The Princess and the Hound

I looked forward to reading this book, but was rather disappointed when I did. While the plot had a lot of potential, the characters fell flat and the writing stlye seemed awkward. A good read for both kids and teens, I give it 2 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Seven Tears into the Sea

Now it's seven years later, and Gwen is returning to her childhood hom for the summer. Will the gossip continue, or will she discover something beyond her wildest dreams?

I recommend this book for teen girls. I give it 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, a nice quick read.

August Rush

This movie was a top notch film, I have to say. The characters were interesting, the music was amazing and the plot was great. My only complaint, the movie seemed to end too soon. But, nonetheless, I loved this movie and definitely recommend it! 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

This is one of those books that I could talk about forever, because it's one of the best books I've ever read. The second book in the Bridei Chronicles, it is amazing. This series has everything, love, politics, friendship, adventure, mystery, and a touch of magic. The first book The Dark Mirror tells the tale of a young Bridei, a boy foster fathered by a druid. Bridei's destiny is greater than he can imagine, and it revolves around the future of Fortriu itself.
I highly recommend this book for everyone 14 and up, it is good for both guys and girls. These books are captivating, I give them five stars!

Also, make sure you read The Dark Mirror before reading this book!

Written when the author was a mere teenager, this is an epic, if short, story of a vampire named Risika. It is her life story, her emotions, thought and opinions on what it is to be a vampire. She is a strong character through which it is interesting to read. This was a good book, and I recommend it to teen girls. The next book, Demon in my View, is also good.

But Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meets the eye. While exploring his new environment, he meets another boy whose life and circumstances are very different to his own, and their meeting results in a friendship that has devastating consequences.

I loved this book and I recommend it to those who like reading about Holocaust.

Fairest
by Gail Carson Levine

Author of Ella Enchanted, Levine writes another book that is sure to please. Seemingly written more for the younger crowd, I recommend it nonetheless. Aza was abandoned as a child, left to the best parents she could hope for. But, Aza is ugly. She grows up subject to the inquiring and disapproving looks of the guests' of her parent's inn, and she suffers for it. When she travels to the royal palace, her whole life changes.
While I found some of the characters lacking in depth, this is still a sweet and interesting book. I recommend it to girls of all ages.

by Cassandra Clare

If you like Tithe, Valiant and Ironside by Holly Black, you will love this book. Set in modern-day New York City, this book reveals a world that few of us see. Clary is your average teenager, until she witnesses a murder at a night club, by people no one else can see. It turns out that the three murders are Shadowhunters, and the boy their killed was actually a demon.

This book is enthralling, and it pulls you in. While the characters seem to lose some of their strength near the end, it still leaves the reader wishing for more. I recommend it!

Time Stops For No Mouse, by Michael Hoeye

As a book about a world of rodents, this book might seem more suited to younger readers. While this might be true, it is also an awesome read for fantasy-loving teenagers. Hermux Tantamoq, the main character, runs a clock shop and fixes clocks for a living. Little does he know, he will become involved in scandal, danger and detective work. I strongly recommend this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Tyler Miller seemed like you average teenage guy. That is until he drew graffiti on the walls of his school and got busted for it. When he gets sentenced to hard summer labor working outside, he returns to school with many extra pounds of muscle and height. When he returns to school, he no longer is the quiet nerdy guy people took him to be before. Bethany, the queen bee of his school and the girl he has been crushing on forever finally notices him. The downside to this is that Bethany's father is his dad's boss. And since trouble is something that Tyler is having a hard time avoiding lately, that jeopardizes his father's career. This also makes Tyler's relationship with his dad much worse. I thought this book was really good. I would recommend it to others, especially the guys.

To vent her anger and frustration, Winter decides to make a blog and post all the stupid things Sloane did, but changing the names of course. Her new blog gets more attention than she planned. It became so popular that even a publisher contacts her and wanted to make it a book and a movie. Winter has to decide the right thing to do and whether going that far to hurt Sloane is really worth it or not. I really enjoyed this book. I read it in about 2 days. It was such a fast read. I definitely recommend it to others.

This book is the sequel to The Hunter's Moon, and is sure to please. Both books are based off of Irish/Celtic Mythology, but resemble more YA fiction novels. I strongly recommend both this book and its predecessor, which are both superb.

Blood and Chocolate

Couldn't find a good picture of the book.

Spurred on by werewolves in other books I have read, I decided to try this. I was very pleased with the plot. This book is about a pack of werewolves trying to live in society, while fleeing the mistakes of their past. The book is about Vivian, and her story. This book has sparked quite a following, though I was a bit disappointed with the ending. I would recommend it for teen girls.

Everything she has is at stake: her boyfriend, freedom, and her life. I thought this book was really good. I would recommend it to other teens.

Forever in Blue -The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares

Lena, Carmen, Tibby, and Bridget are back again for the fourth installment of the Sisterhood and the Traveling Pants series. This time Carmen is doing a summer theater program and gets the lead role in a production. Lena is at art school and meets a new guy who she thinks might be her next Kostos. Bridget happens to fall for one of her new professors. The only problem is that he's already married. Tibby and Brian's relationship gets even tighter than before. The girls share the pants between each other as they always have, and hope that they will have good luck when they get them. This book was pretty good. I would recommend it to those who have read the other books in this series.

The Hunter's Moon by O.R. Melling

Gwen and Findabhair are cousins, and share a very strong bond, their love of the fantastical and the mystical. They have always dreamed of finding supernatural realms, such as those found in books.

While at Findabhair's home in Ireland, they decide to pursue this dream. This is a very good read, and has earned a place among my favorite books. I would recommend it, and look forward to reading it's sequel.

Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz

Blue Bloods is a novel about vampires, conflict, mystery and romance. I read it after having read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, a book I am obsessed with. While it did not live up to Mrs. Meyer's novel, it was a good read. This book takes a new look at vampires, with a bit unorthodox concept of them. I would recommend it, though it was not one of the most brilliant novels I have read.

This book takes place at a proper girls' school in the late 19th century. A mix of fantasy, fiction and history, this book is amazing.

After a grear tragedy in her family while living in India, Gemma is shipped off to Spence School in England. Here she makes friends, enemies, and finds she has exceptional supernatural powers. This book is unlike any I have ever read, and I would recommend girls 14+ read it!

But when Merlin comes, Morgan must chose who she wants to be, A fay, or a sorceress.

In this frightful story, Elie Wiesel tells of his personal experience of survival in the Nazi concentration camps. He explains it all in great detail, from before he was taken to the camps, all the way till he was liberated by the U.S. During his stay in the camps, his father was with him most of the time. Elie Wiesel knew that he would not be able to make it without his father's support and knowing that his father was still alive because the rest of his family (his mother, younger sister and other relatives) were already dead. Unfortunately Elie Wiesel had to literally watch his father die. This story was amazing. I loved it. I recommend it to all teens who don't mind reading about the Holocaust or are looking for information on it. 5 Stars!

Even though I have read many books, I can sincerely say this is arguably the best book I have ever read. I strongly recommend it for girls, aged 14+. The back of the book reads:

Silas Heap is a seventh son, and husband to Sarah Heap, they are about the have their seventh son. But tragically, their son Septimus dies shortly after being born. While out walking the forests that same night, Silas discovers a baby girl abandoned in the snow. This is a story full of magyk and mystery, discovered identities, ghosts and wizards.

I highly recommend this book. Though intended for immediate readers (ages 12+), it is a wonderful book for all ages.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

No doubt many of you have already read this, but for those of you that haven't, I strongly recommend it. I have read it upwards of ten times (not in a row), and am still in love with it.

Eragon is fifteen years-old and lives a simple life on the farm with his uncle and cousin. One day he is out hunting, and discovers a strange blue stone, which turns out to be a dragon egg. Eragon is now the first of a new generation of Dragon Riders, around who many wars rage. Such battles bring him across the country and back, as he struggles to find his place in the world.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

Kate, a sixteen year old girl was diagnosed with leukemia at a very young age. She wasn't expected to live past the age of five, but yet she did, thanks to her sister Anna. Anna was a genetically created baby, made specifically to be a donor to her sister Kate, in hopes of fighting the leukemia that keeps coming back. Since Anna was born, she has given numerous amounts of bone marrow to Kate, along with some other fancy stuff. Now Kate's kidneys are failing, and she needs to get a kidney transplant in order to have any hopes of surviving. As usual, her parents and the doctors look to Anna to undergo this massive surgery to help save her sister once again. This time Anna has had enough of being used, even if it is for a very good purpose. She can't seem to make her voice be heard by her parents and the doctors, so she decides the only way to make that possible is to sue her parents. She's not trying to kill her sister, but she strives for her own freedom in making life decisions like this. She hires a lawyer to represent her, and the opposing attorney ends up being her very own mother. This makes the case even harder for Anna to get through. The case is a long and painful one, but finally it ends. The ending of this story is not what I expected. I really enjoyed this book, and I recommend it to many people, teens and adults.

Tomorrow's Magic by Pamela F. Service

This story takes place 500 years after the nuclear holocaust that destroyed the earth's population. Wellington Jones and Heather McKenna are both two students who go to a British boarding school, basically in the middle of nowhere. Thy befriend a somewhat troubled boy named Earl . Earl seems like an ordinary guy that has lost his memory, but he is the opposite. Earl is really the well known 2000 year old wizard Merlin. The trio discover this after Earl gets hit rather hard in the head. They go on many adventures (that are too good to reveal) on their mission to create a much better society. This seems like an easy thing to do, but not with Morgan Le Fay foiling all their plans. This book is not yet published, but will be on April 28, 2007. I loved it and I recommend it to all teens and even some people ages 10 and up. These books were originally published in the 1980's, and this is Service's "new" version of them.

The Purple Emperor, by Herbie Brennan

For those of you who have read Faerie Wars, this sequel is sure to please. My only grievance is the lack of narration about Henry, but other than that, it was wonderful. This book is filled with more action and adventure in the magical Realm, as well as back home in the Analogue World! I once again recommend this book to all teens, even if you're not into reading fantasy books.

Faerie Wars, by Herbie Brennan

Henry is just your normal kid, minding his own business. He cleans Mr.Fogarty's house for some extra money, but soon something miraculous happens. He finds a fairy, and a real one at that. Turns out, the fairy is from another realm, one where war is imminent. We also here the story of Pyrgus, a normal kid from this other realm. Except of course for the fact that he's the Crown Prince. Things can only get interesting from there, and it makes for a great book. I recommend this book to all teens.

Imogene used to hang with a pretty tough crowd, but now that she's moved to Newford, she's leaving that all behind. But it seems that trouble follows her everywhere, and it takes many forms. Whether it be a football player bully or soul-sucking monster, she has to deal with it.
You will love this book, I did. It deals with the darker side of Faerie, so if you like Holly Black's books, this book is for you. I would also recommend Charles de Lint's Waifs and Strays, an amazing compilation of short stories set in Newford.

When most people die, they go to another place, heaven or hell, depending on what you believe. But sometimes, kids get stuck in between, in a place called Everlost. Allie and Nick died in a car crash, and didn't quite make it to the light at the end of the tunnel. Instead, they are stuck in a world where nothing is as it seems, the 'live world' is like quicksand, and there are rumors of a ferocious monster known as the McGill. This book makes you question what lies beyond, and pulls you into its tale. I recommend this book to all teens.

He has the courage to fight against his assigned fate, and shows that he is the same as any boy born of a human mother. This book chronicles the life of Matt and the struggles he faces being a clone.
This is a splendid book, with very likable characters. I recommend it to all teens.

Rich in Celtic folklore and history, Daughter of the Forest is captivating, you won't be able to put this book down. This book is mainly an adult book, but is appropriate for teens 14+. This is the first book of a trilogy.
Juliet Marillier resides in Australia, and has written many books of historical fantasy. Some of these include the Picts, the Norse vikings and Transylvanian folklore.

This is a very good book, the first of a quartet. If you loved The Song of the Lioness Quartet, you will definitely love these!

When Lightning Strikes by Meg Cabot

When Jessica Mastriani agrees to walk home two miles just because her friend is self conscious about her weight, something very strange happens. A lightning storm occurs and Jess gets struck by a bolt of lighting when the two girls are hiding under metal bleachers. When she wakes up the next morning, she has a new power that she never had before. She knows where the kids are on milk cartons. Jess is confused about how she knows this, but then it comes back to her that it was probably the lightning that hit her. The future of these missing kids is now in Jess's hands. Thinking she is doing the right thing, she calls the 1-800 where are you association telling them that she knows where the missing kids are. Some of them are safely returned back home, but one child is being forced to go home to a father who has been charged for child abuse against him. Now Jess has to fix her huge mistake and help the boy be reunited with his mother. I thought this book was really good. I zoomed right through it, and I recommend it to all teens.

This is the sequel to Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, previously reviewed on this blog. If you loved the original, you will definitely love the sequel! Max and her flock are back, taking them cross-country in another journey that is sure to thrill and surprise you.
For those of you who do not know Max, she lives and travels with her 'flock', Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy and Angel. Raised in labs and scientifically engineered to have wings, they are on the run from their scientist creators, whom they refer to as 'whitecoats'. The first two books of this series are witty, hilarious, and packed with action and adventure. I urge all teens to read these books, you'll love them!
The third book in this trilogy Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports, is due to be released in May. It is an amazing book, that ties in all of the loose ends but still leaves an opening for another book. It is sure to please!

Nobody's Princess, Esther Friesner

Helen of Sparta, a beatiful young woman, was soon to become Queen. But not before she had a few adventures first. Helen hadn't ever liked needle point, or weaving, but she did like using a sword. And after recieving news that her sister is going to get married, Helen and her brothers, Castor and Polydeuces, accompanied their her on her way to get married to the Prince of Mykanae. After nearly escaping their host's request for Helen to get married, they are soon caught up in a wild boar hunt, where Helen meets someone just like her. They continue on going everywhere ranging from The Temple of Delphi, to an island to find a Golden Fleece. I would reccomend this book to grades 7 and up, it deserves 5 stars! ( This book will be published April 24, 2007)

This book is the first installment in a thrilling quartet, that any fantasy-lover is sure to love!

Landon, a teenage boy living in the 1950s had his life changed by one girl. That girl was Jamie. She was a reverends daughter who always carried a bible with her. She had a good heart, always wanting to help those less fortunate than her. She did not have many friends at all, and often spent her free time with her father or reading the bible. Ever since the night she and Landon went to the homecoming dance as partners, they had become friends and eventually lovers. Both of their lives had a taken sharp turns. The two of them were awkward at first, but then warmed up to each other and their friendship grew stronger. Now Jamie had someone else to help her play with the children at the orphanage she always went to. Landon thought his life was great with Jamie. He loved her, but when he told her that, things when downhill from there. Jamie had been very sick and she was not going to get any better. It is before Jamie and Landon have to say goodbye that they have their "walk to remember". I recommend this book to all teens looking for a good read.

Side Effects is the story of Isabella (Izzy) and her experience with cancer. One morning when she woke up, she discovered that her glands on her neck were swollen. After a few phone calls, they figured out it was cancer. Immediately Izzy is taken to the hospital to begin treatments and medication. Izzy just being a teenage girl is oblivious to what is going on. When her chemo treatments don't work as well as planned and her cancer gets worse, Izzy begins to lose hope on surviving. But that changes when she gets some tests back saying that the chemo actually did work and she is cancer free. This story is told by Izzy's point of view. It's interesting to read her opinions as to what is going on with her. I recommend this book to all teens.

Bridge To Terabithia, based on the book by Katherine Paterson, is about a boy named Jess and his encounter with a strange girl. This girl, Leslie, shows Jess a new way of using his imagination and together they discover a whole new world, in which are giant trolls, dragon fly warriors, and many other made up creatures. But after Leslie dies a tragic death, Jess starts to realize that she showed him how to use his imagination, and that he should pass that on to his 6-year old sister May-Belle. This truly is a heart warming movie, and is certain to make you cry. Although it is not very true to the book, I still rate it 3 stars.

Blind Faith by Ellen Wittlinger

Liz Scattergood, a teenaged girl has just lost her grandmother, Bunny. Bunny's death has effected her mother more than her. Liz's mother becomes depressed, rarely getting out of bed and doing the things she usually does. This changes when her mother goes to a special place called Singing Creek. It is here that people come to talk to their lost loved ones. She insists on taking Liz there with her, ignoring the fact that Liz's father is adamantly against everything religious. Thinking that going with her mother will be a bonding experience, she goes. Throughout the story, Liz is realizing that dealing with a death is a lot more complicated than she thought. This novel tells how grief and the death of ohers affects people and how they handle it. I really liked this book and I reccommend it to people who are interested in reading different kinds of books that explore new topics.

When his parents tell thim that his little sister has fallen into a coma due to a surgery, Kim is mad and fustrated. Not that she's in a coma, but that he can't do anything to help her. Or can he? Kim finds himself in the realm of Magic Moon. In order to save his little sister, he has to solve the intriguing secret that is keeping her in the mysterious coma she is in. I recommend this book to teens who are interested in adventure and magical places.

Carrie, a superstitious, immature 15-year old, lost her favorite T-shirt, the one her divorced father had given her. Convinced that the T-shirt gives her good luck and that without it her life would be a wreck, Carrie traced the shirt to India, where it had been donated to a woman's shelter. She tagged along with her enemy Darlene and Darlene's mother to volunteer in India and try to find the shirt. There, she meets an older student, who unaccountably falls for her. Along the way, she begins to lose some of her selfishness. I reccomend this book to anyone who likes a great adventure story, especially one where they travel half-way around the world!

Pretties by Scott Westerfeld

Tally is finally pretty. She has everything she's dreamed of. A perfect face, perfect hair, perfect skin, perfect evrything. Every day of her new life is loaded up with fun. When Tally finds a note she wrote before she became a Pretty, she suddenly realizes that being a Pretty isn't as great as she thought it was, and all the fun suddenly stops. Tally needs to fight for what is right, and it won't be easy. This is the second book in the Uglies trilogy. I recommend it to everyone who read and enjoyed Uglies.

This exquisite book tells the tale of a New York City girl moved to the depths of the English country-side. Her tale is one of fantasy, full of creatures the likes of which you've never heard of. Her family attend to repair their new home, which has much deteriorated with age. The main character, Jenny, and her cat, Mister Cat, soon learn that this house is more than it appears. I would recommend this book to all teens.

What do four sisters, a kind boy, and a mean old "witch" equal? A summer of excitement and danger. Rosalind, Jane, Skye, and Batty, are four sisters staying in the Arundel Cottage with their dog, Hound, for a nice family vacation. But, when they meet up with the owner of Arundel's son, trouble starts. They have to overcome danger, stereotyping, and a military school, to help their friend. I really enjoyed The Penderwicks and I would highly recommend this book to Middle School Students. ( 7th and 8th)

This story features 16 year old Brittany Anne Bowman. When her parents leave for a vacation in Alaska, they leave Brit to stay with her 86 year old grandmother called Nannie. Brit ends up being the chauffeur for Nannie and all of her other 86 year old friends. Brit's new job is to take all of Nannie's friends to their college reunion. Although reluctant at first, she finallly realizes how important it is to them. Brit decides to do whatever it takes to get them to their reunion. The four people have interesting adventures on the way, including theft, kidnapping, and many lies.

Hello, Josh here, I'm the guy with the fun job of buying a lot of the books and CDs for the Boxford Libraries. It's great that we have this new teen advisory group now and I'd like to ask you for some advice. What are some of the music artists and CDs that the library doesn't own that you think we should have? I'm looking for stuff you'd like and that other people might like too. (Also, we're trying to avoid lyrics that need a "parental advisory" because they have a lot of swearing, etc. It gets tricky when really young kids want to check them out and we need to ask their parents.) For those of you into historical fiction or fantasy, this book will suit you nicely. Going back to the times of druidry, it tells the tale of a boy named Bridei. He is brought from his home to live with his foster father Broichian, who will teach him the ways of a druid and a warrior. Why he is being taught he is unsure, but his future can only hold the making of a legend. Marillier is an exquisite writer whom I would recommend to all teens, ages 14+.
